Make a notebook.
A small class in Seoul. Fold the paper, stitch the binding, paint the cover, and leave with an A6 notebook that carries your hand.
Leave with one notebook.
You fold, stitch, paint, sign and date an A6 notebook. The materials come from the same family as Studio Monjo editions: writing paper, waxed thread, ink and watercolour.
No experience required. The class is small, slow, and close enough for guidance.
Materials first.
You learn why each material is there: what paper does for ink, why thread needs wax, and how watercolour changes on the page.
Fold sheets chosen for writing and feel how grain, thickness, and surface change the finished notebook.
Stitch with waxed linen so the binding stays firm, visible, and honest about how the notebook is held together.
Use ink and watercolour directly on paper, keeping the line alive and letting the page do part of the work.
Three hours, one notebook.
-
STEP 01Fold the paper into a body
Start with the paper. Align it, fold it, and prepare the pages that become your notebook.
-
STEP 02Stitch the binding by hand
Learn a simple stab binding. By the end you have a bound notebook sewn with waxed thread.
-
STEP 03Paint the cover
Ink first, then watercolour. Work with composition, brushwork and the page itself.
-
STEP 04Sign it, date it, take it home
Sign it, date it, and take it home ready for the first page.
